THINGS TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

Nepal Local Guide is a professional trekking and tour company that provides guided trekking, peak climbing, cultural tours, adventure activities, and travel services across Nepal. We specialize in offering authentic, safe, and well-organized travel experiences for trekkers and adventure enthusiasts.

Yes, most trekking routes in Nepal require permits. The most common permits include the TIMS (Trekking Information Management System) card and national park or conservation area permits. Some restricted areas, such as Upper Mustang and Manaslu, require special permits. We handle all necessary permit arrangements for your trek.

The best seasons for trekking in Nepal are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is clear, and the views are stunning. Winter treks (December to February) are possible in lower regions, while monsoon treks (June to August) are suitable for areas like Upper Mustang and Dolpo.

No prior trekking experience is required for most beginner-friendly treks like Ghorepani Poon Hill and Langtang Valley. However, high-altitude treks such as Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit require good physical fitness. If you are attempting peak climbing or challenging treks, previous trekking experience and physical preparation are recommended.

Most trekking routes offer teahouse lodges, which provide basic accommodation with shared rooms, beds, and meals. In remote areas, facilities may be more basic. For luxury treks, we arrange upgraded lodges with better facilities. Camping treks are also available in off-the-beaten-path regions.

Essential trekking gear includes warm clothing, a sleeping bag, trekking boots, gloves, sunglasses, a backpack, a water bottle, and personal medical supplies. The packing list varies depending on the trek, altitude, and season. We provide a detailed packing guide for each trekking route.

Trek difficulty depends on the route and altitude. Easy treks like Poon Hill require moderate walking, while moderate treks like Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit involve long walking hours at high altitudes. More challenging routes, such as Manaslu Circuit or peak climbing expeditions, require endurance and physical fitness.

Altitude sickness can be a risk above 2,500 meters. We follow proper acclimatization schedules, suggest slow ascents, and provide necessary guidance to prevent altitude sickness. Our guides are trained to recognize symptoms and take immediate action if needed.

Teahouses serve a variety of meals, including Nepali dal bhat (rice and lentils), noodles, soups, momos, porridge, pancakes, eggs, and other vegetarian options. In higher altitudes, food variety may be limited. We ensure hygienic meals that provide the necessary energy for trekking.

We accept cash, bank transfers, and online payments. A deposit is required to confirm your booking, and the remaining balance can be paid before the trek begins.

Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, is located in Nepal, which is also the birthplace of Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Nepal has become a prime destination for remarkable achievements in peak climbing, boasting over 1,000 peaks above 6,000 meters. In addition, the world’s 14 tallest mountains, all over 8,000 meters, include 8 that enhance Nepal’s stunning landscape. Trekking through the Everest region provides breathtaking mountain views, an opportunity to experience UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and discover diverse Himalayan flora and fauna. It also allows for exploration of the unique culture and lifestyle of local communities.

A Nepal visa can be easily obtained upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Alternatively, you can apply for a visa at the Nepalese Embassy in your home country. For those traveling by land through India, visas are available at the immigration offices along the border. To complete the visa process, you’ll need a valid passport and passport-size photographs. Visa fees vary depending on the length of your stay in Nepal.

We will book a tourist-standard hotel in Kathmandu with comfortable and luxurious rooms. The hotel will provide 24-hour hot water and Wi-Fi facilities. Accommodations can also be arranged according to your specific requirements.

During the trek, you will stay in teahouses, homestays, hotels, or lodges. The rooms will have basic amenities with small but clean beds, and most lodges will have shared bathrooms. While the bedrooms won’t have heating, the dining hall will be equipped with a chimney heater. We also provide sleeping bags, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

During the trip, you may only have access to 3-4 showers. Hot water is available upon request, but only at a few lodges. Given the extreme cold and snowy conditions, frequent showers may not be necessary. Our guide will provide additional instructions on maintaining personal hygiene throughout the journey.

You will need to be moderately fit for most of our treks. For trips that involve longer durations and higher altitudes, such as the Everest trek, a higher level of fitness is required. The level of fitness needed will depend on the specific trek you choose.

You should have insurance to cover medical treatments, trip cancellations, and emergency helicopter evacuations. Our trained guides are equipped to handle any emergencies that may arise during the trek.

Please note that money will not be refunded if the trip is not completed due to reasons such as weather conditions or personal circumstances.
